Hop on board for a memorable ride through the famous Napa Valley wine region. Book your reservation for a tour on the Napa Valley Railroad in Napa Valley. The railroad tracks date from 1864 when forceful and determined Samuel Brannan started the Napa Valley Railroad (NVRR). It was to take wealthy people to the Caligosta Resort. Eventually, it was taken over by the California Pacific Railroad Extension Company. Today, it passes through 5 towns in the Napa Valley. You start off at McKinstry Street Station in Naples before heading off pass the towns of Yountville, Oakville, Rutherford before ending up at the foot of Mount Saint Helena. This is your departure point. The railroad shut down in 1987. The decision to reopen the line occurred that same year. By 1989, the resurrected NVRR was rolling across the Valley. Today, you can pick a tour or special event. The capacity of the NVRR is 370 passengers. The train consists of a 1950s era engine and 9 cars. There is a lounge, an observation car and a dining car. One of the most popular cars is the reconditioned 1947 Vista Dome car. In fact, one of the tours is built around the Vista Dome. Other special tours include the Silverado Car and the Gourmet Express. Take part in a Murder Mystery drama theater or a Moonlight ride. Yet, the reason many return to ride again and again on the train is the Napa Valley Wine Tour. This involves regional wine tasting and possible stops along the way. Each train tour is 3 hours long.
